Not many club officials have turned out for marathons in all six Continents. That said, Dungannon Rugby Club treasurer, Simon Jenkinson has just completed his sixth and has now returned from Australia after competing in the Outback Marathon. Many at Stevenson Park are proud of his efforts stretching from 2015 to 2023. After leaving Dungannon Royal School Simon suffered a major personal tragedy and his world seemingly fell apart with serious illness. He badly needed to get back on track and he felt that God wanted him to face a huge challenge and hence the start of his many marathons. His gruelling run in the Outback saw him complete the challenge. Well done to him and his six continent runs were as follows.
North America (2015), Asia (2017), South America (2018), Europe (2019), Africa (2019), Australasia (2023). During the Covid period Simon also ran the Iceland Volcano and the Polar Circle marathons. The rugby club treasurer, who is now in fine shape, wanted to prove nothing was impossible and none of us would disagree with that.
