The members of Dungannon Football Club are extremely saddened to learn of the recent passing of David Haslett, our former 1st XV coach. David joined Dungannon F.C in 1994 and in partnership with Director of Rugby Willie Anderson oversaw one of the most successful periods in our long history culminating in the Club becoming All Ireland League champions in May 2001. David was a hugely knowledgeable and well respected coach who was held in great affection by all his players during his time in Dungannon.
David was educated at B.R.A where he was Headboy and 1st XV Captain, and after graduating from Q.U.B embarked on a teaching career at Royal Belfast Academical Institution where he spent his entire career until his retirement in 2007. Both prior to and following his time with Dungannon, David enjoyed a long and distinguished rugby coaching career spanning schoolboy, club, provincial and Ireland ‘A’ roles.
Latterly, though based in Belfast and heavily involved in Academy RFC, David usually attended the annual ‘Old Boys’ reunion lunch at the Club ahead of an AIL match each season where he delighted in catching up with many old friends.
To his widow Shirley and children Rachel and Michael and the wider family circle we offer our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy.
